This magic trick exemplifies how closely intertwined Magic can be with Science. This easy to perform magic trick appeals to all ages and is sure to wow the crowd.

The object of this magic trick is to separate the salt and the pepper that resides on the plate together. This would be an almost impossible task or at least an overwhelming feat to attempt. That is, unless you know some fancy magic words and combine them with scientific principles in order to make it happen!

To solve the problem, simply, form static electricity on the balloon and wave it over the plate and the pepper with jump right up off of the plate and attach itself to the balloon.

Materials Needed

  • Salt
  • Ground Pepper
  • A plate
  • A Balloon

How to Do It

  1. Pour a cup of salt onto a plate.
  2. Shake a bunch of pepper on top of the salt.
  3. Call up someone from your audience and ask them to separate the salt from the pepper, a seemingly impossible and overwhelming task.
  4. When they are unable to do it, inflate a balloon and tie it off.
  5. Then, rub the balloon against your head or pant leg.
  6. Say a few magic words and wave the balloon over the plate of seasonings.
  7. The pepper will immediately separate and attach itself to the balloon, leaving only the salt behind.
