Activity Overview
The California Space Center is Los Angeles is free to the public. It has a number of exhibits that cover the full spectrum of science from space travel and how life on Earth functions to the history and future of human technological innovation.
Things to See & Do
- At the Samuel Oschin Pavilion you can see the space shuttle Endeavour. This impressive feat of engineering was a significant step forward in many ways for NASA and the larger scientific and space flight community.
- Among the most advanced and efficient space shuttles in the world it completed 25 missions into space during its service life. Here kids can get up close and personal with the shuttle to learn about how it was built, how astronauts lived aboard it for long periods of what time and just what exactly makes it such a special vehicle.
- There are also a ton of interactive and hands on displays and demonstrations that will enlighten and educate children and adults alike.
California Science Center Insider Tips
- Though admission to the Center is free you must pay $10 for parking a regular car or $25 for oversized vehicles. There is also a charge to enjoy special attractions like the IMAX Theatre. To avoid the parking fees take the metro expo line to the Center instead.
- In winter and spring there are many school visits so often the best time to visit is after 1:30 pm when most of the kids have gone. At any other time it is advisable to get there as early as you can to beat the sizable crowds.
