Activity Overview

Get ready for some ooey gooey bubbling fun with this great recipe for Bubbling Swamp Slime. Kids of all ages will find hours of hands on fun playing with this interactive slime. The slime appears like it is bubbling up from the deep murky swamp or can even be concocted to be a witch's bubbling brew in a cauldron.

Try playing with some small plastic characters and toys in this bubbling playland and let those imaginations soar to new heights. It will bubble gradually on its own, but if you mix it up during play, get ready for a little overflow. This recipe for fun is one of our very favorites for hands on fun and creative play.

Materials Needed

  • 2 cups of white vinegar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of xantham gum
  • Food coloring
  • Baking Soda
  • A flat bottomed square container. We used a dish pan.

How to Make It

  1. Pour the vinegar into a bowl. Whisk the vinegar as you slowly sprinkle the xanthan gum over the surface of the vinegar.
  2. Add food coloring as you are whisking.
  3. Your evolving slime will still have a bunch of clumps of xanthan gum that haven't quite mixed into the solution yet. This is okay.
  4. Place the mixture in a refrigerator for 3-4 hours.
  5. Whisk the slime once again until it’s textures is nice and smooth.
  6. Line the bottom of your pan or wash basin with a full covering of baking soda.
  7. Pour the slime over the baking soda. Enjoy playing in the mucky bubbling swamp slime!
