Activity Overview

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is located in the heart of the Prospect Park neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. This beautiful 52-acre garden is dedicated to displaying and conserving plants, as well as teaching people of all ages about the environment. It's the perfect attraction for a family day out, whether you just want to breathe in some fresh air while surrounded by nature, or spend the day learning about plant life. Features include a number of specialized gardens, a conservatory, a visitor center, a cafe, a library, a shop, and a composting exhibit where you can learn all about this environmentally-friendly practice.

Things to Do

  • Explore the gardens! There are thousands of fascinating plants and flowers to see, as well as the popular Celebrity Path, where you can walk along stepping stones that feature the names of famous people connected to Brooklyn, including Barbra Streisand and Woody Allen.
  • Take your child to the Children's Garden in the spring and summer, where you can encourage their gardening skills by taking part in special kid-friendly activities that teach them all about nature while they do crafts, sing songs, and get involved in planting projects.
  • Don't miss Daffodil Hill, the beautiful hill near Magnolia Plaza that is covered in these brightly-colored flowers throughout March and April.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden Insider Tips

  • If you're visiting with children over 12, make sure they bring along a student ID to get the $5 student admission price instead of paying $10 for an adult admission.
  • There are tons of opportunities to see the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for free - including Tuesdays, Saturdays between 10:00 a.m. and noon, and winter weekdays between November through February. Best of all, children under 12 always get in free.
  • Make sure to visit the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden, one of the oldest Japanese-inspired gardens in the United States. Its breathtaking landscapes will make you feel like you've been transported across the Pacific to this fascinating country, especially when the cherry blossoms bloom in April and May.
