Activity Overview

Boston Harbor Cruises are one of the city's institutions. Begun by Matty Hughes they have been sailing the waters around Boston since the year 1926. Today the business is the largest private operator of passenger vessels in the USA. At the peak of the summer season they employ over 500 people on 44 vessels providing a variety of cruises and tours in Boston and its surrounding areas. Each year around 2 million passengers enjoy their services making them a real local success story.

Things to Do

  • Boston Harbor Cruises offer a joint program with the New England Aquarium to take passengers out to the Stellwagen Bank Marine Sanctuary to see whales up close. You will head out on one of their catamarans to watch humpbacks, finbacks, minkes, pilot whales and right whales from one of the ship's viewing platforms. Each trip is accompanied by a specially trained naturalist who will tell guests about all about these magnificent creatures.
  • Codzilla is the choice for thrill seekers. This twin-turbo powered boat has an incredible 2,800 horsepower that can see it zip around the Boston Harbor at 40 miles per hour. Expect thrills, spills and plenty of loud rock music!
  • Boston Harbor Cruises make regular trips out to both Georges and Spectacle Island. Georges Island features a fort to explore as well as frequent programming during the summer including performances and vintage baseball games.

Boston Harbor Cruises Insider Tips

  • You want to get to visit Salem in an altogether different way? Why not take the Boston Harbor Cruises' ferry to the historic town. This is not one of the company's tours but instead is a high speed ferry that will take you from Boston to Salem in under and hour, and should give you just enough time to get a few snapshots of the Boton Harbor.
  • For a short trip across the harbor, jump on the water taxi to the airport. For just $10 one way and $17 round trip you get excellent views of the harbor and you can even stop for a drink at the Hyatt Airport hotel before your return trip.
