Activity Overview

Having featured in a number of popular movies including The Notebook Boone Hall Plantation might feel familiar. With its grand plantation house, avenues of oak trees and working agricultural fields Bone Hall is essentially the picture book image of a typical Southern Plantation. It is imbued with a relaxed charm but also does not shy away from the darker aspects of its history with original slave cabins on site for viewing by the public. This Plantation covers more than three hundred years of history stretching back to its foundation in 1681 and has been open to visits from the public for almost seventy years.

Things to Do

  • The troubled story of early black history in America is told in a unique way at Boone Hall. The Plantation opens the doors of eight original slave cabins to the public. Each cabin has an exhibit on a different theme like "Their Work and Life" and "Emancipation & Freedom" which are designed to bring home to visitors the tough realities of life for slaves at Boone Hall and countless other plantations throughout North America.
  • The Plantation's Boone Hall Farms Market can be found close by on Highway 17 North in Mount Pleasant. Here they sell produce grown on the Plantation itself including tomatoes, strawberries, pumpkins and other fruits and vegetables.
  • There is also a café, a butchers, a fish seller, a flower and gift department and more. They also have an online store where you can purchase some of the good available.

Boone Hall Plantation Insider Tips

  • One of the delights of any visit to the Plantation is the drive along its famous avenue of live oak trees. It can be better to go early to drive along here given that it can get quite busy once more visitors begin to arrive in the afternoon.
  • Children under 5 are free. Senior citizens and military personnel are granted a small discount.
