Activity Overview

An iconic roadside attraction along historic Route 66 the Blue Whale of Catoosa makes for a great place to pull in and take a few fun funny photos. The Whale sits in a pond where it is possible to swim. Originally built in 1972 by Hugh Davis as an anniversary present for his wife, the Whale quickly became popular with passing travellers who wanted to stop by and swim or take pictures with the statue.

Things to Do

  • Playing around with the Whale is good fun. You can walk into his open mouth and down to the tip of his tail or you can poke your head out of one of the holes in his head. People love to jump off his tail into the water beside him
  • The Whale makes a fun and somewhat different destination to go if you are in the area so bring along a picnic to make a real afternoon out of it. There is a picnic area beside the Whale and it is a very popular place with locals.

Blue Whale of Catoosa Insider Tips

  • If you want a souvenir of the whale you can buy memorabilia online.
  • The Whale has needed refurbishment at different times over the years and maintaining the small park that surrounds him is an ongoing effort. There is no charge to visit the attraction so the people who look after it ask for donations to help keep it in good shape. If you would like to donate you can do so here.
