Activity Overview

Hikers can enjoy some extensive hiking trip at the Big Mountain Pass located in Wasatch Mountains in Salt Lake Valley, Utah. This road was the original route of the Mormon pioneers when they crossed it in 1847, Big Mountain Pass is at an elevation of 7,420 feet. The road is pretty steep, this road was built in 1931. Hikers can summit the Wasatch Mountains by taking the hiking trails North of the big Mountain Pass. Big Mountain Pass is closed in the Winters.

Things to Do

  • Take an extensive hiking trip at the Great Western Trail North of the Big Mountain Pass, the trail gives panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
  • See the Big Mountain and the peaks, the trail is moderate to difficult for most hikers, it is rough, steep, uneven and there are ridges.
  • You can explore a variety of plants, shrubs and vegetation on your way, there are stunning views around the trail; natural and unkempt.
  • Hiking the full trail takes around 3-4 hours and the distance is about 5.2 miles.
  • The Mormon Pioneer Trail is relatively easy, which is 3.5 miles in distance, along the trail you can see maple and Oak trees. Best views in the fall season.
  • Mountain biking trails are available. Dogs are not allowed on any hiking trails.
