Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest is a beautiful nature reserve located in Clermont, Kentucky, which is about 80 miles outside of Lexington. It contains a 600-acre arboretum with over 8,000 distinct varieties of trees as well as a 14,000-acre research forest which can be explored using several hiking and biking trails. Other features include a visitor center, breathtaking natural views, and areas for activities such as fishing, picnicking, and bird watching. It's a great place to visit if you're interested in exploring the natural beauty of Kentucky while having fun with your family.

Things to Do

• Start your visit at the Visitor Center, which has trail maps, restrooms, a cafe, and tips on where you can find artwork, wildflowers, birds, and other interesting things within the forest.
• Go on a family hike or bike ride! There are over 35 miles of trails throughout the arboretum and forest that are perfect for hikers of all ages and skill levels.
• Check out the beautiful sculptures that can be found throughout the arboretum, including Let There be Light, a bronze statue by world-famous sculptor George Grey Barnard.

• Save money by visiting on a weekday, when admission is free. On weekends and holidays, visitors must pay $5 per car for an environmental impact fee.
• Don't miss the Education Center, where you can view educational exhibits, artwork, and see birds, small mammals, and a bee hive in the Wildlife Viewing Room.
• Attend one of their many family-friendly programs, such as ECO Kids Discovery Days on the first and third Saturday of each month that include self-guided adventures and discovery stations that children can explore with their families.
