Activity Overview

New Orleans is home to the 58 acre Audubon Zoo which holds some 2,000 animals. These animals are spread out in exhibits which cover habitats from Asia, Africa and North and South America. Come along for a fun day out where you can see animals from all over the world.

Things to Do

  • The Zoo's Wild Walks are a cool way to see a side of the Zoo that most regular visitors often don't get the opportunity to see. In a small group you will be led for a walk through two of the zoo's sections and receive an insider's look into life behind the scenes. You will be shown how the zoo looks after its animals and fin out all kinds of facts on your favorite ones.
  • A Twilight Trek for Teens is also fun. On this walk participants are treated to a live presentation and animal encounter along with an evening hike through the Zoo!

Audubon Zoo Insider Tips

  • The Zoo is closed on Mondays.
  • You can check out the zoo map here.
  • Though it offers plenty to see and do the Audubon Zoo is only one part of the Audubon Nature Institute. The Institute also includes the Aquarium of the Americas, a Butterfly Garden and Insectarium and the Entergy IMAX Theatre. It is possible to buy combo tickets which grant you access to more than one of these attractions. Also worth a look is the Audubon Park which is beside the Zoo. A visit here is made all the more tempting by the fact that it is free!
