Activity Overview

The New Orleans Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is amongst the most well known aquariums in the south. It is home to over 10,000 animals and more than 500 species representing marine life from all over the world. Sharks, penguins, frogs, fish of all kinds and more are exhibited for the public to see. Besides their regular exhibits the Aquarium also runs many educational programs and is a great place for a field trip.

Things to Do

• Ever wondered what it feels like to experience the ferocious wind speeds of a hurricane? Well at the Aquarium you can get a taste of winds of up to 78 miles per hour. Just step inside the hurricane simulator and feel the wind rush through your hair!
• The Aquarium's Gulf of Mexico exhibit is a must see. A quarter scale replica of of an offshore oil rig with over 400,000 gallons of saltwater and an incredible variety of sharks, fish and turtles it is an impressive sight.
• Everyone loves penguins and there are plenty to see at the Aquarium. The Penguins exhibit houses 35 African blackfooted penguins. Make sure you catch one of the penguin feedings at 10:30 am and 3:00 pm every day.

• The Audubon Nature Institute includes a number of attractions aside from the Aquarium of the Americas. It is possible to buy tickets which combine visits to the Aquarium, the Audubon Zoo, the Butterfly Garden and Insectarium and the Entergy IMAX Theatre which shows nature-related films and documentaries.
