Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge is the longest cable stay bridge in the western hemisphere, the world's longest is in China. The cable-stayed bridge hangs over the Cooper river, running from Charleston to Mount Pleasant in South Carolina. The bridge is named after politician Arthur Ravenel, who had campaigned for the construction of the bridge.

This bridge attracts many visitors due to its construction and engineering, especially runners and families. It is a 2.5 miles long bridge, the construction began in 2001 and lasted till 2005. The bridge features side lanes for walkers, runners and cyclists.

Things to Do

• Get stunning views of the Cooper river and Charleston city, by walking, driving or cycling on the bridge. The bridge has a beautiful and pleasant architecture to look at.
• An annual race "Cooper river bridge run" is held at the bridge every spring, walkers and runners both can take part in the race. Separate race event is organized for kids up to the age of 13. A separate parking lot is allocated for runners, walkers and bikers.

• Enjoy the beauty of the river and the bridge, a picturesque place with many opportunities for photographs. Look at ships sailing by, and you can also spot dolphins.
• Families can also take a harbor tour to enjoy breathtaking views of the bridge from a distance.
