Activity Overview

Ancil Hoffman Park named after the manager of famous 1930's boxer Max Baer, is just one in a system of parks that run along the American River known as the American River Parkway. These various parks display and preserve the beauty of Sacramento County's flora and fauna. Ancil Hoffman Park is no different with animals such as deer, rabbits, squirrels and many different types of birds making regular appearances. The American River itself runs right along the east side of the park and provides a tranquil setting to enjoy the surrounding beauty.

Things to Do

  • While at the park you should visit the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. This impressive facility is open from Tuesdays to Sundays and offers the public school and group education programs. Surrounding the center is a 100 acre nature preserve where it is common to see animals like rabbits, snakes, hawks, owls, coyotes and wild turkeys. There are picnic tables near the building where you can sit out and eat. Also check out their trails map for easy walks you can do around the area.
  • Golfers may enjoy hitting a few holes at the Ancil Hoffman Golf Course which is adjacent to the park. The course is beautifully kept with aging oak trees and some of the local wildlife often found running around the green.

Ancil Hoffman Park Insider Tips

  • You have to pay for parking at Ancil Hoffman Park. If you are planning on being a regular visitor it may make more sense to buy a year round pass. You can buy passes that apply to other parks like this one in the Sacramento County area.
