Activity Overview
Find all things jazz at the American Jazz Museum. The museum hosts exhibitions of jazz music, art, and publications as well as live performances throughout the year to help promote awareness and preservation of jazz, its roots and culture.
Things to Do
- Visit the interactive exhibit complete with listening stations and custom mixing boards. You will also find photos, posters, music sheets, and plenty of jazz artifacts at the Collections exhibit area. The Album Art section features covers of the greatest jazz albums recorded.
- Watch performances at The Blue Room or bring your own instrument and join the jam sessions on Mondays. The museum holds a Latin Jazz/Salsa night every last Thursday of the month too. Check the museum's website for their events schedule.
- Bring the kids to the Jazz Storytelling event held every first Friday of the month. Kids are encouraged to explore jazz music through a fun song and dance play.
- Get to know more about prominent jazz artists such as Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald at the Jazz Masters Exhibit. This section features memorabilia from the artists themselves including a saxophone, trumpet, and a performance dress.
- The museum also holds Jazz Poetry Jams every third Thursday of the month. This event serves as venue for budding artists to share their work in between live jazz music performances. Watch the artists or join the open-mic competition too!

- The Jazz Museum is located in the same building as the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Get the combo ticket package and visit the 2 museums for a cheaper admission fee.
