Activity Overview
If you're in Seattle and looking for a quick beach escape, head on to Alki Point on the western side of Seattle. The water might be too cold for swimming but you can spend your afternoon here to watch the sunset. Toilets, changing areas, fire pits, picnic tables, and food stalls are avaiable within the vicinity of the beach. The place is pet-friendly as long as you keep them on a leash.
Things to Do
- Go for a 2.5-mile jog or walk before finding a spot to catch the sunset. You can also rent bikes or skateboards. You'll be sharing the beach with rollerbladers, joggers, and cyclists so expect the area to be crowded during holidays, weekends, and on sunny days,
- Find a bonfire pit and light a fire while waiting for the sunset. Follow Seattle's beach fire rules to ensure safety.
- Enjoy the view of downtown Seattle as seen across Elliott Bay and of the nearby Blake Island in Puget Sound.
- Bring your own food or buy from the many restaurants along the beach drive and then occupy a picnic table. You'll find good restaurants here (and coffeeshops too!) but food can be a bit pricey.
