Activity Overview

The Canal Street Ferry, also known as Algiers Ferry, is the mode of transportation between Canal Street in New Orleans CBD and Algiers on the West Bank of the Mississippi River. The ferry has been in operation since 1827 and is already a huge part of the daily life in New Orleans. Visitors can also use the ferry ride as a great alternative in seeing the Mississippi River and the beautiful New Orleans skyline. Here's an added bonus: share the ride and chat with residents of New Orleans.

Things to Do

  • Catch the ferry ride to Algiers and enjoy the views of the river. It's a short, 5-minute trip from New Orleans bank to Algiers. Once you get off at Algiers, explore the walking path along the river or go for a quick snack. The ferry comes every 30 minutes so you have ample time to admire New Orleans from the opposite bank.
  • Bring your bike for no additional charge and go around Algiers.
  • From Algiers, watch as the lights go up and take photos of the New Orleans skyline at dusk. If you're planning to return at a later time, check their website for the time of the last ferry trip.
  • Pets are allowed on board, with no additional fee.
