The 1850 house is a beautiful and stunning landmark that was built in 1851 and is located in Jackson Square, New Orleans LA. The 1850 house, part of the Louisiana state museum, offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of the upper class in antebellum New Orleans. The house is luxuriously decorated with arts and crafts of the early 19th century. The 1850 house is part of the Pontalba building, the lower Pontalba building was sold by the Pontalba family in 1921, and the building was bequeathed to the state museum in 1927. Self guided and docent led tours of the building are available. The museum/historic home is open to public tours Tuesday through Sunday.
